9/8/2017 0 Comments Changing the TrajectoryHello, everyone!
I’m planning on taking this blog in a different direction. In the future you can expect narratives, prompt writings, poetry and more! I’ll be posting on Fridays instead of Mondays or whatever I was doing before. … Explanation time! For the past month or so, the “muses” have led me in a different creative direction, and they weren’t necessarily in the direction of theologically-based writing. In other words, I figured out that I probably wouldn’t make a good pastor. Instead, my thoughts turned more towards stories. I began to read again, and my own ideas began to grow inside me. I love writing fiction. In the right hands, fiction and fantasy can be so rich and deep, impacting the readers to do good, motivating them to change the world, inspiring them to hope again. It’s an amazing tool, powerful enough to become a weapon. So I’m resurrecting stories that I laid to rest years ago. I’m giving them new life, new souls and new themes. And I want to practice the talent and ability that God has given me. I want to nurture it so that it will grow strong and produce strong stories for His glory. Now, I’m going to talk about what I’ve read and learned about writing, and then share what I’ve done so far. If you have any good books or literary tips to share with me, please feel free to leave me comments! I’d love to talk to you! … Let the adventure begin! 7/24/2017 2 Comments Fruit of the Spirit: LoveThe First Fruit of the Spirit: LoveBut the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Love.
That four-letter word, that gets all kind of lip service. I chose strawberries as a representative for this Fruit of the Spirit, not only because they are sort of heart-shaped, but because they are one of the most unique fruits out there. Strawberries have their seeds on the outside (which, turns out, they aren’t actually seeds, but hey), and they aren’t true berries: they’re a member of the rose family. There are many more facts about strawberries out there, but those are just a few. In a similar way, love is also unique. It seems to actually encompass and involve some of the other Fruit of the Spirit, such as patience, kindness, and self-control (see 1 Corinthians 13:4-7). 7/10/2017 0 Comments Music Camp Community (part 2)So, to answer the question from Music Camp Community (part 1), which was:
"How can I have this kind of community away from camp?" I began thinking about this, wondering whether it was even possible. I concluded that no two groups of people could ever be the same, because no two individuals are the same. But I believe one person truly can make a difference, especially in his or her own community. 7/1/2017 3 Comments Thoughts from this weekI know it’s been two weeks.
The first week I procrastinated, the second week… I’ve been learning things. Some I learn quicker than others. But besides God, Experience is always the best teacher. I was angry. I was hurt. I wrestled unimaginably hard with myself. Because I knew what I should do. Even if the thought didn’t fully form in my mind. And my flesh raged back at the injustice it felt, lashing back at the pain. It wouldn’t hurt until you touched it. Like a bruise. But then it was uncovered, poked and prodded, and I screamed inside. I held on. So tightly that I couldn’t handle the pressure I was putting on myself. I thought I had two options, and I knew both of them were wrong. I really had four. 6/13/2017 2 Comments Music Camp Community (part 1)This week was crazy busy. But I enjoyed it a lot, since I spent it at a music camp.
It was hosted at a Christian university just three hours away. We played our instruments together, learned music theory, tested the waters of a composition program called Finale, and sang together as a choir. One of the songs we sang was an upbeat, Latin-American piece called “La Música” by Jay Althouse. The first line is: “La música nos une por todo el mundo.” Translated, that means “the music unites us all over the world." This fit our experience at camp well – many of the kids in the group lived much further than three hours from the university, and we found that we loved singing and playing together in the practice rooms whenever we had the chance. 6/5/2017 2 Comments The One Who Holds the StarsI love "Stars" by Skillet. The lyrics show both the huge glories and beautiful intricacies of God. The lyrics inspire me with awe and wonder, that God Almighty cares deeply about me and the struggles I go through, and that He is strong enough to change me.
I spent this past week in Hawaii for the first time. Since I live on the mainland, there were a lot of first experiences. It was my first time on an island; my first time wearing a real, sweet-smelling, soft plumeria lei; my first time seeing a crab in real life; my first time trying papaya; my first time swimming in the Pacific Ocean; my first time hiking through a tropical rainforest; my first time getting mangoes from a mango patch. This probably makes me sound naïve, but every bit of it was like an amazing adventure. And though all the nature and flowers and food around me smelled and tasted delicious, the most glorious part of my stay was - the stars. And though they had always been right above me, my home on the mainland was so surrounded by city lights that I could only see the orange glow and maybe six or seven bright stars. But this. There are days when I find myself lazy and half heartedly working through my chores and the mundane. This is simply a prayer, a desperate one, asking for God to give me the strength to do everything well, because He deserves every bit of my praise and more. Thank Jesus I don't have to do it in my own strength, and that He forgives when I fail.
5/22/2017 6 Comments Honest Music, Honest PeopleI thought this was going to be a post about the lyrics of the song “Live It Well” by Switchfoot, but as I listened to it on YouTube, something caught my eye…
Almost a year ago, Elite Lens Films commented on the Switchfoot - Live It Well (Album Version) video on YouTube: 5/14/2017 4 Comments Thank You, MomGive your mom a really, really big hug today.
